Following the provincial elections held on October 14, 2025, the Fédération des francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador (FFTNL) wishes to congratulate the Honourable Tony Wakeham, Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for the district of Stephenville - Port-au-Port, on his election and swearing-in as Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as to the newly elected members who form his government.

The creation of a department dedicated to Francophone Affairs within our provincial government is a very significant step forward for our community, placing Francophone issues higher on the provincial government's agenda,” said Tony Cornect, President of the FFTNL, adding, “This step forward fulfills the commitment expressed by the Honourable Tony Wakeham during his speech in La Grand'Terre on October 25, in which he emphasized that preserving and promoting the language is not only about honouring the past, but also about creating opportunities and building a promising future.

The FFTNL looks forward to working with the Honourable Lin Paddock, MHA for Baie Verte-Green Bay and Minister of Francophone Affairs, to key priorities for our province's Francophone and Acadian communities.

The FFTNL also extends its congratulations to all those elected across the province and thank all the candidates for their participation in the democratic process.
